American Idol is Back!

Alright, dawg, American Idol is finally back! The wait is over, and tonight Season 11 will open to millions of eager viewers with cable and direct tv packages around the world.  Let’s face it, since The X Factor wrapped up last month, reality performance television has been nonexistent.  Obviously, with so many viewers waiting to lap this stuff up like a cat with a saucer of warm milk, this season expects to see more viewers than ever before.  I wonder how many times this year Randy Jackson will preface his insightful responses with “yo, dawg…”   Or how many times Steven Tyler will compare a bluesy-sounding female singer’s voice to that of Janis Joplin?  I wonder how many times J-Lo will assure a contestant that he or she has “made it your own.”  These are things we cannot know, of course, but I’m sure they’re on everyone’s minds.

Most importantly, however, is the lineup of new contestants this year who made it through the initial auditions and will compete to make it to the finals.  We all want to know who the finalists will be ahead of time.  Of course, there is no way to find this out without being psychic, so we have to watch and wait.  In order that you will not miss any of the exciting episodes airing this season, here is how it will go:

Audition Episodes begin tonight:  Wednesday, January 18 and will continue on Thursday, January 19.

Sunday, January 22 will be one episode following the NFC Championship Game.

Audition episodes resume on Jan. 24, Jan. 26, Feb. 1, Feb. 2 and Feb. 8.
Three special Hollywood Rounds episodes are slated for Feb. 9, 15 and 16.
Feb. 22 and Feb. 23 have this year been titled Performance Challenge episodes — something new?
The Feb. 23 show will bring the announcement of semi finalists, but the semifinals themselves will take only one week this year.
Tuesday, Feb. 28 marks the show’s 400th episode and the first wave of semifinalists will perform with  the other half taking the stage the next night.
March 1 will reveal the finalists voted for by viewer’s along with any wildcard actions by the judges.
Sounds like a lot of fun!  Don’t miss it.
